Architectural Stonecarving – Nicholas Culley

We met Nick Culley, when he created from solid stone some superb door corbels, ionic column heads and tympanum carving on one of our projects and were immediately impressed by his exceptional skill. Since then he has carried out some wonderful commissions for us including urns, stone benches, fire places and fountain heads.  The main picture shows him working on the garland of fruit tympanum carving referred to above, which was cut back from 200mm thick sold blocks of limestone.

He lives and works in the Wiltshire market town of Corsham, where he served his apprenticeship in the 1980’s with a local stonemason. His carving skills quickly shone through and he has worked now for several years as a specialist stonemason. We are delighted to exhibit here for sale at £2,750 including VAT a specially commissioned basket of fruit of exuberant design.

The story of its creation is set out below, which shows the artistry involved in its creation over a two week period from a solid block of limestone.
